Engineering with Purpose: CHED Reaffirms Commitment to Global Competitive Filipino Engineers

Drawing from his experience as a Doctor of Engineering and incumbent National President of the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines (ICpEP), Commissioner Apag highlighted the importance of recognizing emerging engineering disciplines, particularly Computer Engineering, as distinct and globally relevant fields aligned with modern technological demands and international standards.
The Commissioner underscored the significance of the Philippine Technological Council’s milestone as a full signatory to the Washington Accord. A landmark achievement affirming that Philippine engineering education meets internationally recognized standards and strengthening the global mobility and competitiveness of Filipino engineers.
He further emphasized that engineering today extends far beyond traditional infrastructures, now encompassing artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, automation, robotics, renewable energy, smart systems, data science, and digital governance. In this rapidly evolving landscape, engineers are called not only to demonstrate technical excellence but also ethical responsibility, integrity, collaboration, and compassion.
Commissioner Apag reminded participants that engineering must always remain grounded in humanity, stressing that every innovation, system, and technology ultimately affects people’s lives. He called on engineers to continue building solutions that uplift communities, modernize industries, strengthen national development, and inspire future generations of Filipino professionals.
Additionally, the event reaffirmed CHED's ongoing dedication to enhancing engineering and technology education via globalization, quality assurance, innovation, research, and more robust industry-academic collaborations.
As the ceremony concluded, Commissioner Apag expressed confidence that Filipino engineers are ready to collaborate, innovate, and lead on the global stage, carrying with them not only competence and technical expertise, but also purpose, integrity, and genuine service to humanity.
