ESSU confers diplomas to over 2,000 graduates; Senator Bam Aquino serves as commencement speaker

A highlight of the ceremony was the commencement address delivered by Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, marking his second visit to the university.
In his message, Senator Aquino recognized the sacrifices made by students and their families and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing quality education beyond the successful implementation of free tuition in state universities and colleges nationwide.
“Alam ko po na ang libreng kolehiyo, na siyang pinaglaban po namin, ay unang hakbang pa lang…dahil ang pangarap po natin—ang bawat kabataan—hindi lang makakatanggap ng tulong para makapagtapos, kundi magkakaroon din ng tulong para makapasok sa trabahong marangal, maayos, maganda ang sahod at mayroong kinabukasan…” the senator said.
In recognition of his contributions to the education sector and continued support for Eastern Samar learners, Senator Aquino was conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Education.
Also among the speakers was Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda, who shared that the drive behind the City Government’s student-serving programs Libre Sakay and Direkta Ayuda is the pursuit of equitable access to education, which begins when students are afforded the necessary resources to flourish in their academic careers.
Mayor Agda similarly expressed support for the opening of the ESSU College of Medicine, committing to sending Borongan scholars to the program and to opening Borongan’s healthcare facilities for community service and student training.
The ceremony was attended by key officials from Eastern Samar and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), including 4Ps Partylist Representative and House Minority Leader Cong. Marcelino "Nonoy" Libanan, Eastern Samar Lone District Representative, Cong. Christopher "Sheen" Gonzales, Governor Ralph Vincent "RV" Evardone, Borongan City Vice Mayor Emmanuel Tiu Sonco, Board Member Philip Evardone, Jr., City Councilor Zen Daza, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Desiderio Apag III, and CHED Region VIII Director Maximo Aljibe, CESO III, Eastern Samar.
